Introduction to the City of Dunkirk

The City of Dunkirk is located directly on Lake Erie and is located within just fifty miles of Buffalo, NY and Erie, PA. The city is situated on the comfortable harbor offered by Chadwick Bay, and has direct access to Interstate 90 (New York State Thruway) and the Seaway Trail. Dunkirk is located in the business friendly Chautauqua County.

Encompassing 4.6 square miles, Dunkirk is a stable community that has experienced significant growth in recent years. Major sectors of the area's economic base include manufacturing and fabrication, health care, steel production, transportation, boating and visitor attractions..

Dunkirk's origin dates back to 1836, with the incorporation of the Village of Dunkirk.  Dunkirk's harbor and the development of the railroad spurred the region's growth through the mid 1900's.  The second half of the 1900's was marked by a diversification of Dunkirk's industries and economy.
